Reminiscences of the Leeward Islands

Bath Hotel, Nevis

The Bath Hotel and Spring House was built of stone along Bath Stream in 1778 on the island of Nevis. It was the first official hotel to open in the Caribbean. The mineral hot springs and the hotel attracted visitors such as Prince William Henry, Lord Nelson and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. This photograph was taken in the 19th Century by Jose Anjo of Antigua.
