Blantyre


Blantyre was the largest settlement in the south of Nyasaland. Its Scottish sounding name hints at its origins as the gateway to the interior for Scottish Nineteenth Century missionaries such as David Livingstone. These 1959 photographs show it as quite the cosmopolitan settlement.
