Dura River Railway Circle

This is an aerial view of the 1.18% (1 in 84 approx) spiral which was cut round a hill between the Mpanga and Dura Rivers as part of the Western Extension. It illustrates some of the engineering difficulties that had to be overcome to link Kampala with the copper mines in the Rwenzori Mountains. Photograph taken by Brian Kingston and is shown as it appears on Malcolm McCrow’s website.
