East India Company Ships


This 1660 picture shows the characteristic flag of the East India Company flying on the ships in Deptfordin their company yard. The EIC became a hugely profitable concern and plugged India and its products into the trading patterns and opportunities of Britain, the wider empire and of Europe.

This painting can be seen at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.
