John Vernon Wild CMG, OBE


John Vernon Wild was born in 1915. Educated at Taunton School, read mathematics at King’s College, Cambridge and won a cricket blue in 1938. He served in the Colonial Administrative Service in Uganda from 1938 - 1960 when he took up mathematics again becoming a lecturer at Exeter Sixth Form College. Whilst in Uganda he wrote The Story of the Uganda Agreement, The Uganda Mutiny and Early Travellers in Acholi. He spoke Acholi fluently and wrote a book in that language.
