Malacca in the 1950s

This photograph shows the wide roads of Malacca in the 1950s. You can see the number of Chinese traders and shops in this particular street. It was the Chinese who were most active in the Emergency. The author spent time in this historic town as Secretary for Chinese Affairs helping the police and army to identify those Chinese likely to be helping the insurgency.
