The British Empire and its effect on Plymouth

Charles I

Charles I led his own army in an attempt to capture Plymouth. He started out his attack from Hartley but his forces were repulsed at Pennycomequick. He stayed at Widey Court which has long since disappeared but the entrance way to the grounds can be found under the Manadon A38 Flyover. Widey Court itself was located where Widey Court Primary School is currently.
