The first committee of the Straits Chinese British Association, in 1900. The remarkable event which sparked its formation is described below.

Some of the objectives of the SCBA were: “To promote among the members an intelligent interest in the affairs of the British Empire, and to encourage and maintain their loyalty as subjects of the Queen; to afford facilities for the discussion of all questions relating to the social, intellectual and moral welfare of the Chinese British subjects in the Colony.”
