Sembawang Naval Base Bombed


Bombs from Japanese air-raids falling on the much-vaunted Sembawang Naval Base in early 1942.men and police in fire-fighting, evacuation and rescue work during the many Japanese bombing raids.

The naval base fell despite being touted by Churchill as the "Gibraltar of the East," and being defended by heavy 15-inch artillery stationed at Johore battery, Changi, Buona Vista Battery, as well as of smaller batteries Fort Siloso, Fort Canning, and Labrador.
