The naval base fell despite being touted by Churchill as the "Gibraltar of the East," and being defended by heavy 15-inch artillery stationed at Johore battery, Changi, Buona Vista Battery, as well as of smaller batteries Fort Siloso, Fort Canning, and Labrador. |
