Ulendo, 1940


This 1940 photograph shows a man travelling overland from Nyasaland to Kenya in 1940 in order to report for duty during the Second World War. Ulendo was a term used in Central Africa for any expedition through the bush by whatever means of transport. The East African equivalent of 'Safari' is more popularly known in English.
