Colonel Daniel Parke

(died 1710)

Colonel Daniel Parke (died 1710)

The profligate father of Lucy, the first wife of William Byrd II. It was Parke's debts, rashly guaranteed by his son-in-law, that were the cause over twenty years of much distress to the Byrd family of Virginia. Parke, who had been ADC to the Duke of Marlborough and brought the news of the victory at Blenheim to Queen Anne, became Governor of the Leeward Islands where he died in riots - the result, it was said, of his own maladministration.
