The Death of Wolfe

This famous Benjamin West painting was part of the process of turning soldiers like Wolfe into Imperial heroes and icons. His sacrifice of his life at the victory on the Plains of Abraham was the high point of British military success in the North American theatre of the Seven Years War. That Wolfe should die in the process helped raise his name to the growing pantheon of Imperial legends.
