General Wood

Sir Evelyn Wood reached the rank of full General on 26th March 1895. This photo was taken in the early years of the 20th century when the peaked forage cap of this style was adopted. He has the rank badges of crossed sword and baton on his shoulders with a crown and star. He was not promoted to field marshal until 8th April 1903 so this was taken before that date. The chain around his shoulders is for the order of the Knight Grand Cross. He has the star badge for this on his chest, along with the Order of St Michael and St George and underneath the Order of Medjidie.
