James I

Biography
James was another King who might not have expected to ever wear the crown of England. His mother was the Catholic rival to Elizabeth; Mary Queen of Scots. James, however, had been whisked away at the age of one by the Protestant aristocracy of Scotland and had therefore been raised a Protestant. This had the effect of making James a more palatable heir to the childless Elizabeth for the English Protestand power brokers and aristocrats.
