Edward VI

Edward VI was only nine years old when he became King of England. He was too young to rule the Kingdom himself, so the Duke of Somerset - and then the Duke of Northumberland - ruled on his behalf. They were strong supporters of the Protestant reformation and helped to make sure that Catholicism did not return to England. One major reform to promote the Protestant cause was the introduction of Crammer's Book of Common Prayer. King Edward had been a sickly child and continued to suffer from Tuberculosis. He was too weak to prevent his 'Protectors' from mismanaging the economy and alienating large sections of the Kingdom. He died at the age of just sixteen.
