Gavrilo Princip

Gavrilo was a 19 year old Bosnian Serb nationalist. He was a member of the Young Bosnia movement and of the Black Hand gang. On June 28th he managed to assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife in Sarajevo.

He attempted suicide at the scene but the gun was knocked from his hand by an onlooker. His second attempt at suicide was by cyanide, but it made him retch and he vomited up the poison. Princip, too young for the death penalty, died of Tuberculosis in an Austrian prison in 1918.
