PC Paydirt is a 1.7 MB Windows program which uses ~6K files of each team to allow 2 players to play a Face-To-Face (cheek-to-cheek) game of Paydirt on the keyboard of 1 PC.

Only tested on Windows 98/SE/ME.
There is no guarantee that the program will work if U don't install all the drivers, if necessary overwriting yours.

The computer handles all the player info (down, yards to go, yards to TD, time taken, time left, time outs left, etc.).
A simple graphical representation of each play is provided on the pitch.
Detailed averages are provided during a game for each of the 63 combinations of offense & defense together with run & pass sub-totals & grand totals.
24 useful stats (eg completion rate) are also provided during a game.
Almost all of the advanced Paydirt rules are simulated, including :-
1. Choice of kickoff (deep, squib & onside)
2. All calculations for yardage factors (including home advantage & point spread)
3. Short drop punts
4. Coffin Corner punts
5. QB flop & Elected Safeties
6. Wild Card defenses (Run, Pass, QB Sneak & Guess)
7. 2-minute offense (Hurry-up & Intentional Out of Bounds)

Some of the rules have been amended/clarified, including the priority chart.
These are some of the rules that have been added to bring the stats closer to reality, any comments welcome :-
1. 10% chance of injury on a 40-second play outside last 2 Minutes of each half.
Increases number of plays per game to more realistic levels
2. very short complete passes as reduced by the Defense are changed to incompletions to give more realistic %
Minimum passing distance for each pass are :-
   Screen = -5,      Short = 1,   Medium = 5,      Long = 15,  Side-Line = 1
So a Green 5 & a Red 5 would become incomplete on a Short pass but remain complete on a Screen pass.
This rule does not affect runs, (), or when the defense did not get a Red number.
3. do nothing if the Yardage factor would deprive the offense of a first down by passing
Attempting to increase completion yardages to more realistic level
4. do nothing if the Yardage factor would reduce the result to less than the minimum for that play
caused by all the green brackets, only works for medium & long
attempting to increase completion yardages to more realistic level
5. no re-rolls of OFF 5 50% of the time, to increase number of penalties prior to the snap

At the start players choose the speed of the ball & how long they have to choose a play.
Lately we've allowed 12 seconds per play which gives a game length of ~35 minutes.
There is a solitaire capability against a Computer AI.

Paydirt follows standard Windows installation routines, its 800x600 16-bit :-
1. Create a temporary directory on your hard drive (e.g. C:\PD).
2. Copy these files to the directory C:\PD :-
   a) SETUP.EXE
   b) SETUP.LST
   c) PAYDIR1.CAB
   d) PAYDIR2.CAB
Do NOT mess about with these files in any way (SETUP.EXE will do that in step 3).
3. Run SETUP.EXE from C:\PD.
4. Whilst running SETUP.EXE you will be asked to choose a directory to install into.
Do NOT install it to C:\PD - choose the default location (usually C:\Program Files\Paydirt).
5. After installation has successfully completed, U can delete C:\PD & everything in it.
6. Copy any team charts into C:\Program Files\Paydirt.
7. Run Paydirt from C:\Program Files\Paydirt.

I have only included the 2 1988 Superbowl teams in the download.
There is a separate zip for creating teams in Excel, which then have to be sent to me for conversion.
Of course, someone has to type each team's data into Excel & someone else check it.
Unzip the files into the same directory as the 2 Superbowl teams (usually C:\Program Files\Paydirt).
When U restart Paydirt again U should have all 28 teams in both lists.
I recommend NOT using your printed team charts during games so that U have to learn how to coach a team.

There's also a separate Excel Pivot Table to analyse the stats.

If you have any problems during a game then Zip me a screenshot (Alt Print Screen sends it to the clipboard) of your problem.

Choose a new league name, eg, 1988 Detroit Computer (use Tab to go to the next input field).
The first 4 digits are the year of the season.
The computer will only show those team files which begin with those digits.
If you want all 20th century teams then enter 19 followed by 2 blanks & then the rest of your league name.
Select who is at home, just type in a new name & press Tab.
Set one player to U & the other to Computer.
I suggest the Computer is Left & U are Right, then U can use the numeric keypad for your plays.
Choose the 2 teams.
There are currently 8 options at the bottom :-
Store Human Choices Tick allows the computer AI to use human choices to aid its decisions in future games
Yardage Factors Tick necessary for realism
Play Wait Tick I use 50 on a Pentium3 500MHz, but if your machine is faster choose a bigger number
Limited Information Tick leaving it blank allows you to cheat by seeing all the die rolls
Message boxes Blank not necessary (they will pause the game at change of possession)
Time Limit Tick necessary for the computer opponent (choose a limit to suit you, e.g. 15)
Beep on Wrong Key Tick computer will Beep if you press a wrong key
Colors by Possession Blank not as pretty as colors by quarter

Like a normal game of Paydirt, do not swap sides at the end of each quarter.

With Time Limit on the computer beeps with these seconds left :- 15, 10, 7, 5, 3, 2, 1
If both players fail to select in time the program will pause until both players are ready.
If only 1 player fails to select in time that player is given a 5 yard delay of game penalty.

If U want to only play both sides offenses then use the same name for both players.
The computer will use a simple semi-random method to choose the defense.

Take a screenshot(Alt PrintScreen) at the end of a game to save both teams detailed stats to the clipboard.

Like Windows, if U leave the mouse over a particular field PC Paydirt will show U some help text.

To call plays use the following :-
Column	Meaning
L	key for Right Hand Player on Numeric Key Pad (centred on 5)
R	key for Left Hand Player on main keyboard (centred on F, CapsLock must be off)

R L Offense	Defense Kickoff Special Offense Special Defense
- - ----------- ------------------ ------- ----------------- ---------------------
1 C Line Plunge Standard Deep Cancel Cancel
2 V Off Tackle	Short Yardage Squib Time Out Time Out
3 B End Run	Spread Onside Punt -
4 D Draw	Pass Prevent Short	- Field Goal -
5 F Screen	Pass Prevent Long	- QB Flop/Safety -
6 G Short	Blitz - Hurry Up * Wild Card Guess
7 E Medium	- - Spike Wild Card Run
8 R Long	- - Out Of Bounds Wild Card Pass
9 T Side-Line	- -	* QB Sneak * Wild Card QB Sneak

+ S ------ Special keys allow U to use Special Offenses/Defenses

Note: * indicates that these special plays are not available in games involving the Computer AI.
Any other Wrong Key pressed will be ignored & a Beep sounded unless that option has been deselected.

Examples (LHP is on offense RHP is on defense)

D Offense calls Line Plunge
1	Defense calls Pass Prevent Short
Program processes down

SV	Offense calls time out
Program pauses until Offense presses Enter (assumes previous play was more than 10 seconds long)

+7	Defense calls Wild Card Run (Conditional if Defense is ahead of the points spread)
E	Offense calls a Medium Pass
Program processes down

SE	Offense Spikes the ball (assumes previous play was 40 seconds long)
Program pauses until Offense presses Enter

SRT	Offense calls Side-Line pass Intentionally Out Of Bounds
+65	Defense calls Wild Card Screen (Conditional if Defense is ahead of the points spread)
Program processes down

04	Defense fakes a special play & just calls a Pass Prevent Short
SCF	Offense fakes a special play & just calls a Screen Pass
Program processes down

S68 Offense Hurries Up (assumes previous play was 30 or 40 seconds long) & then calls Long pass
1	Defense calls Standard
Program processes down

SD	Offense try Field Goal (assumes offense in range otherwise punt subtstituted)
Program processes Field Goal (defense selection ignored)

B	Offense try Onside Kick (assumes previous Field Goal successful or start of half)
+72	Defense guess Squib	(no special plays allowed on kickoffs)
Program processes Kickoff

Note that both players can press keys at any time up to any time limit, so a play can be changed until the opponent has Selected.
So a down such as SRT+65 could also occur as +S6RET5.
If the computer is still processing other key presses when U press a key then your choice is ignored.

Each stat has 3 values ;- Attempts, Average, Yards
If you have set Color by Quarter on then the background colors are :- Green(1), Yellow(2), Orange(3), Red(4), Blue(Overtime)
The text colors are :- Black(Normal), Blue(Total), Pink(TD), Brown(1st Down), Red(Possesion lost)
