Musicians 1889

The illustration by Doug Hagger for an article on the 20th Hussars in Military Modelling of Nov 1993 is inspired by a rough sketch made at Norwich in 1889 by P W Reynolds in his notes, of the special pattern stable jacket for the band. It is similar to the jacket in the 1874 illustration but has four olivet buttons down the front. The edging and decoration is in crimson and yellow cording. Reynolds says that the band sergeant has gold cord. The band pill-box cap is still crimson but this time with yellow braid around the top edge and forming a pattern on the top around the button. The bandmaster had an officer style pill-box cap with the same braiding as for officers but the body of the cap in crimson instead of blue.
