Six Pounder Sledge

Cannon Sleighs/ Sledges

Sleighs and sledges were used with guns, howitzers and mortars, with field and garrison gun carriages and with calibres from 6 to 12 pounders. They were pulled by two horses or fifteen men on snowshoes.

The most successful gun/sledge combinations were the light 6-pounders used with the infantry as battalion guns. These were able to keep up with the infantry and were followed by ammunition sleighs.

They could have a seven foot recoil.
