Captain George Lawrence

Captain George Lawrence was the secretary to Macnaghten. He had accompanied the Macnaghten throughout the British time in Afghanistan. He had been present at the battle of Ghazni and had also been with Macnaghten when Dost Mohammed surrendered himself in 1840. He would become dismayed at the lack of resolve at the apex of British decision making when the crisis first manifested itself. He himself would avoid the death that befell so many others due to being handed over as a hostage.
