Royal Artillery

Other Ranks, 1847

A page from P W Reynolds's notebook. These are his highly finished illustrations based on sketches by Raffet. The gunner on the left may be in walking out dress but side-arms were not worn when walking out, and this man has a bayonet on his belt. He has the undress forage cap and single breasted stable jacket. The middle man shows us the equipment carried in marching order. His shako has the plume removed. The side view of the sergeant in full dress shows the white shoulder belt on his left shoulder whereas the Company-Sergeant 1846 has it on the right shoulder.
