Officer's Shako c1839

The bell topped shako of this period was slightly lower than the shako of the 1820s. The Maltese cross badge has the Sphinx of the 1801 Egypt campaign in the middle. The gold cord festoon across the peak is an elaborate extension of the gold caplines. The feathers were not worn in India so this is how the shako would have looked for the final year of the regiment's existence as light dragoons which was spent in England. The buff collar can be seen here almost totally covered with French lace and Russia braid.
