Drumhorse, c1897

The 4th DG spent 8 years at Rawalpindi where this photo was taken. The drummer is in full dress with the foreign service white helmet. There are yellow cord aiguilettes on his left shoulder. The drum-banner is pale blue (see Drumhorse by Simkin). The bridle is quite complicated, having three sets of reins, one set attached to the rider's stirrups, another to his saddle and a third set threaded through rings level with the horses eyes. This arrangement is also to be seen in the Simkin print.
