Officer, Review Order 1826

This water-colour by William Heath was reproduced in Pomeroy's history of the 5th Dragoon Guards. It is a wonderful example of the magnificence of military uniform at the height of its development. Awe-inspiring but unfortunately very impractical. The regiment were known as the Green Horse but Heath, or the printers, have managed to change the green to blue. The baggy cossack trousers should be dark green as should the horse furniture, sabretache and jacket facings.
