Officer's Mess Dress (open)

The waistcoat can be seen more easily with the jacket pulled open. The small gilt ball buttons down the middle are decorative, as they are on the jacket. The waistcoat fastens with hooks and eyes but also has olivet buttons which used to be the sole means of fastening but proved unsatisfactory. The jacket has a thin gold cord holding the two sides together at the collar. The inside of the jacket is lined with white quilting and an inside pocket can be seen on the right of the photo.
