Private, Review Order c1895

The dress uniform remained like this until it was discontinued in the 20th century except for bands. The tunic did not display regimental collar badges until c1900, at which date also the white leather pouch-belt was abolished. The sword is attached to the saddle on the left at this stage, and his Martini Henry carbine is in a bucket holster behind his right leg. This was replaced around this time by the Lee Metford which was only carried on field-days and campaign. The white head-rope is worn on the bridle in place of the chain that was replaced c1893.
