Royal Horse Guards

Mounted Corporal of Horse, 1900

The lance was used in the household cavalry Musical Ride displays. This man is ready for the Royal Tournament. His sword is attached to his saddle for this performance, presumably because he has to dismount at some stage without the emcumberance of a sword as well as a lance. It is normally suspended on slings from a belt (see: Troopers c1890).
