Frederick Burnaby by J. Tissot

This famous officer was painted by the even more famous painter as a junior officer. He reclines in stable dress, consisting of the Blues pattern officer's stable jacket which is the same as the mess jacket (see: Field Officer's Mess Kit) but worn closed by means of hidden hooks and eyes. The overalls were also worn with the full dress tunic in certain orders of dress. He wears the undress pouchbelt of white patent leather. His full dress uniform is on the couch beside him.
