By order of 19th December 1768, the lace and method of looping the button holes on the mens' coats was laid down for each regiment. A book containing actual examples of the lace can be found in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle. Each one is sewn onto a piece of cloth used as the facing colour of the regiment. This example of the button loop for the 34th is described as: bright yellow and dark blue worm on the outside, narrow red stripe on the inside, on white. The facing colour is described as bright yellow. A new clothing warrant was introduced in 1768 making significant changes to uniforms. The coats were more close fitting and had a turned-down collar. Cuffs were smaller with vertical button loops. Waistcoats were now white, except in light companies which usually had red. |
