Lace Pattern on Mens' Coats 1768

By order of 19th December 1768, the lace and method of looping the button holes on the mens' coats was laid down for each regiment. A book containing actual examples of the lace can be found in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle. Each one is sewn onto a piece of cloth used as the facing colour of the regiment. This example of the button loop for the 34th is described as: bright yellow and dark blue worm on the outside, narrow red stripe on the inside, on white. The facing colour is described as bright yellow. A new clothing warrant was introduced in 1768 making significant changes to uniforms. The coats were more close fitting and had a turned-down collar. Cuffs were smaller with vertical button loops. Waistcoats were now white, except in light companies which usually had red.
