Officers and ORs c1880

This group photo taken while the regiment was in Burma. In the centre are the Colours and the trophy drums and mace from the Peninsular War. The RSM stands behind the drums and the Colours are held by two Colour-Sergeants. Since 1868 the badge for this rank changed from a single chevron to three, with crossed flags above. They are in full dress tunics with collar badges but wear the undress glengarry cap. The RSM has a forage cap like the officers.

Most of the officers are wearing blue patrol jackets but the 4 senior officers seated in the middle have their full dress tunics, which now show badges of rank worn on the gold shoulder cords instead of the collar. The cuffs are richly covered in gold lace and Russia braid. These officers also have the older style of crimson sash over their left shoulder while the more junior officers standing in full dress tunic have the more tailored up-to-date type. The officer seated on the right of the photo has boots and breeches and an India pattern frock, smarter than the 1860 version, but more comfortable than the tunic.
