Grenadier 1751

This detail from a painting by Morier in the Royal Collection shows the grenadier with his coat buttoned up but displaying blue lapels and the white lace with a blue zig-zag pattern. The breeches are blue as is the front of his mitre cap except for the red background to the Hanoverian horse and the cypher. His sword is supported from a waistbelt hidden below the coat. The shoulder belt carries the black grenade bag and has a brass case attached near the shoulder to keep the lit taper for lighting the fuse of the grenade.
