Officer, Light Company 1800

A series of prints was produced at the turn of the 18th/19th century depicting officers of various regiments, for the British Military Library. This one shows the new shako with a light infantry green plume but the front of the cap has a large gilt plate instead of the expected stringed bugle badge. The coat with it's short tails, as worn by light infantry, has black facings with a white piped edge. There are three visible silver buttons on the cuff and one on each side of the collar. The wings on his shoulders are red with silver edges and bullion fringes, having a stringed bugle badge in the middle. He has a gorget on his chest which is gilt. The regiment wore silver gorgets up until 1797 when all infantry regiments were directed to have gilt as standard. The white breeches are worn with stockings and short black light infantry boots, or half-gaiters.
