Private 1725

This 20th century illustration of a grenadier of the Buffs in 1725 is mostly based on guesswork. The mitre cap, however, is copied from a memorial plate c1725 and has a blue eagle or griffin with a devil's tail and holding a halberd. This is the armorial device of General Charles Wills who was Colonel of the regiment from 1716 to 1726. It indicates that the dragon was not the badge of the regiment at this time.
