Officers' Mess Dress 1958

This photo was taken at Keightley Barracks, Wuppertal in West Germany where The Buffs were stationed from 1957 to October 1958. The officers are in mess dress, the four on the left being The Buffs and the officer on the right, a visitor from Canada wearing the mess dress of the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada (QOR of C) who were allied to The Buffs. The Buffs mess jacket is scarlet with crimson satin lapels and buff collar and cuffs. The cuffs are unusual in that they have a slash flap with three gilt buttons. The waistcoat is presumably buff-coloured also. The officers are named, from the left: Captain Mike Dracopoli, 2nd Lt John White, Major Richard Dendy, Major Jimmy Worts MC. Major Dendy became, in 1959, the last CO of the Buffs before amalgamation and the first CO of the Queen's Own Buffs. We are grateful to John White and Tim Dendy, son of Major Dendy, for this information.
