Rifleman in Marching Order c1895

In 1890 the home service helmet was discontinued in the Rifle regiments and replaced with a folding version of the black fur busby. The plume at this stage was black over red. The black cords are plaited at the front and hang from side to side. The jacket is a frock with red collar and looped red braid on the cuff. Rifle regiments wore black equipment and straps instead of white. After 1888 the Slade Wallace equipment was used, placing the valise high on the back, with the rolled greatcoat at waist level. He is armed with the magazine Lee Metford introduced in 1890, with a black leather sling.
