Guard Inspection by Simkin, 1898

The man on guard holding his rifle at the port is wearing his active service uniform. The frock worn in place of the full dress tunic has hip pockets. The sergeant on the right has the same but wears a field service cap and no gaiters. The officer has the old style forage cap with black silk embroidered cap band. His stable jacket is the same as a mess jacket but fastened down the front with hooks and eyes.
