The Northumberland Fusiliers

Corporal, Field Day Order c1897

NCOs up to the rank of lance-sergeant had white chevrons, while sergeants and above had gold lace. The scarlet tunic had white collar and cuffs since 1881. The shoulder straps were scarlet with white embroidered NF and flaming grenade badge. The brass collar badges were also flaming grenades as was the fur cap badge. The red and white plume has been removed for field day activities. The white straps are for the water-bottle (left shoulder) and haversack. This last item is empty and folded neatly. His rifle is the 1895 Lee-Enfield with the 12 inch sword bayonet attached.
