The Northumberland Fusiliers

Officer Service Dress 1901

The khaki service dress was similar for all the regiments of the British Army during the Boer War but the Northumberland Fusiliers were distinguished by the red top folds of the pagri on their tropical service helmets. The first type of jacket worn at the beginning of the war had a stand collar. See Major G L S Ray. By 1901 the stand and fall collar was adopted. The shoulder straps had gilt letters NF and a grenade badge. All the buttons were gilt. The Sam Browne belt had two shoulder straps that crossed on the back. The boots are brown and the puttees are khaki.
