The Northumberland Fusiliers

Lieutenant-Colonel, Undress c1910

The officers' undress uniform before World War 1 consisted of the recently introduced peaked forage cap which has remained in use for 100 years. The cap-band was of black mohair with an oak leaf pattern. The rest of the cap was blue with red piping around the top. Senior officers had gold embroidered peaks but below the rank of major they were plain. The double-breasted blue frock coat was introduced around 1902, along with the new way of wearing the crimson sash, around the waist instead of on the left shoulder. The collar badges are of gold wire embroidery with silver figures of St George and the dragon fixed to the grenade.
