Piper, 1893


The Royal Scots have a great reputation for piping and have two famous pipe majors in their history. Alex Matheson who served with the 1st and 3rd battalions between 1889 and 1913, and G S Allan, who served with the 1st battalion from 1907 and 1919 and with the 2nd battalion from 1921 to 1930. The man in the photo has the uniform of a piper, the pipe major had gold lace on his collar and cuffs.
