Captain, Mess dress c1895


The scarlet mess jacket was worn over a white shirt and black bow tie It had white collar and cuffs edged in gold Russia braid. The gold shoulder cords have two stars on each shoulder, denoting, at this time, the rank of captain. The cuffs were decorated with gold braid in and Austrian knot with another row of braid forming a crow's foot below it. The waistcoat is also of scarlet cloth, edged with gold braid. The trousers were as for full dress, blue with a quarter inch scarlet stripe.
