Officer's Hot Climate Frock c1890

The frock tunic replaced the shell jacket which was worn in the early 1880s. It is made of a light material and looser than the dress tunic. The one star on the shoulder strap shows that the wearer of this frock was a lieutenant. Second lieutenants had no rank badge until 1902. The star is of regimental pattern and called the Eversleigh Star. The white facing colour appears only on the collar and edge of the shoulder strap. The cuff is scarlet with gold Russia braid figuring which increased with the rise in rank. There is white piping along the edges of the garment including the two slits at the back. There are 5 buttons down the front and smaller buttons to secure the shoulder straps. There are no visible pockets.
