Colour Sergeants, 1st Battalion 1903

The eight Colour Sergeants of the 1st Battalion stand here with the RSM in the middle. The RSM wears a peaked forage cap which was a special item for Warrant Officers while the rank and file wore the peakless Broderick cap. The other undress cap was the blue field service cap which is worn here by the sergeants. They all wear the undress scarlet frock which has five buttons down the front, white collar and white braid on the cuff. In front of them are the Colours with the wreath on top of the Queen's Colour. The drums are painted and show the battle honours. In 1908 the regiment acquired a fine set of silver drums.
