Officer and Sergeant, Review Order c1912

This pre First World War illustration by Ernest Ibbetson depicts the full dress which was soon to be abandoned in favour of khaki. They both have a scarlet tunic with grass green facings which were revived in 1905 after 24 years of white facings. The sergeant has pointed cuffs and green shoulder straps which have a brass title. The collar badges are the Sphinx of Egypt. He has white gloves but the private in the background is showing a gloveless hand. The officer has a smarter tunic with gold lace around the collar and cuff. The Russia braid follows the edge of the cuff lace and runs along the bottom of the collar. He is a captain with 3 stars on his gold cord shoulder straps. His sword is suspended from gold straps attached to a webbing belt which is beneath his tunic. Around his waist is the crimson silk sash which before 1902 was placed over his left shoulder.
