The Warwickshire Regiment

Privates, Walking Out c1912

The undress forage cap introduced c1900 was only worn by officers and Warrant Officers up until c1905. From 1902-5 the other ranks wore the Broderick cap which was similar in shape but had no peak. It was withdrawn for most infantry units in 1905 and replaced with the peaked cap. This forage cap has lasted well, being still worn in the British army and by soldiers throughout the world.

The Warwicks were a Royal regiment so the cap band is red, and a red welt runs around the top rim. The dress tunic is scarlet with blue collar and cuffs. There is white edging around the top of the collar and cuffs, and down the front edge and on the red shoulder straps. After 1913 these shoulder straps were of the facing colour, blue. The back vents of the tunic skirt were edged in white and had slashed flaps with buttons.
