Constable in Patrol Dress, 1890

The brown cotton duck working uniform worn for fatigues and working parties was less visible than the scarlet serge. It would probably not have been worn on patrol as this style of dress was hardly in keeping with the Mountie ethic of the highly visible police presence. The deerstalker type cap was not very practical nor very good to look at. The Winchester carbine is carried across the front of the saddle.
