Sergeant in Full Dress, 1901

This illustration by Bryan Fosten shows Sergeant A H Richardson who won the VC in the South African War. The khaki tunic was not as eye-catching as the later full dress which had a scarlet tunic and brass, plumed helmet. The collars do not have a badge at this stage, neither does the stetson hat. There are 5 brass buttons down the front and there are no breast pockets as there are on the service dress jacket. He wears the Victoria Cross next to his Queen's South Africa medal.
