Sergeant 1936

This illustration by R Money Barnes from his book shows that the uniform had changed little since the beginning of the 20th century. The blue jacket has red piping round the neck and down the front. There are breast pockets and shoulder straps with a small silver badge. His sergeant's chevrons are of silver lace and he has a red sergeant's sash.

The black leather belt supports a bayonet but there is no ammunition pouch on the front. His Lee Enfield rifle has a khaki web sling He has no head-gear, but his hair is worn in a distinctive Fijian style. He wears a white wrap-around sulu and no shoes.
