9th Gurkhas

Rifleman in Marching Order, 1901

Up until 1894 the 9th wore red uniforms with yellow facings, but from that date they were officially a Gurkha regiment and wore green with black facings. This photo clearly shows the equipment and armaments of the Gurkha; the long kukri knife and the Martini-Henry rifle. His uniform is full dress and from this angle we can see that the cap is not flat topped, but sunken with a rim.
