British Officers in Khaki c1897


This group photo of the 9th Bengal lancers appeared in the Navy & Army Illustrated. The man seated in the middle is Colonel Garstin. They all wear the khaki kurta with brown leather Sam Browne belts worn over red kummerbunds. There are steel shoulder chains with rank badges and gilt buttons. Their turbans are blue, gold and white, all tied in different ways. The man standing on the left with a helmet is a staff officer with red flashes on his collar. Some of the officers have haversacks on their left shoulder.
